About the Organization

In 2015, a group of local music community leaders started a conversation. Our growing city was making it harder to make music, produce music, and support music. Through researching the successes and failures of other cities, while still recognizing our own unique Portland culture, a mission for MusicPortland emerged. Everyone was committed to a simple idea: Make Portland a better place to be a music professional.

MusicPortland seeks to create economic opportunity for every member of Portland's independent music industry. We bringing together the collective voices needed to sustain and grow our local music ecosystem. Our Board and Advisory Circle draw from all corners of Portland’s independent music industry, and they serve to listen to and advocate for our members and the Portland music community at large. We need your voice to be successful. We want to hear from all business sectors, musical genres, and music stakeholders to create powerful change and economic prosperity for our city.

If you are a Portland music professional, you cannot succeed alone. Music without a supportive community is impossible. Join us today to make a difference.

Independent Together!

For a deeper dive into our objectives, here is the 30 minute presentation from our Kick-off Party, featuring Portia Sabin (Kill Rock Stars), Meara McLaughlin (Executive Director, MusicPortland), and representatives from City Hall.
